Ben Stiller was given a role on the TV series Miami Vice thanks to Casting Director Bonnie Timmermann spotting him in the play House of Blue Leaves.
Ben Stiller tweeted on August 5, 2021:
"She gave me that job when no one had hired me cause she saw me in a play. No Audition. (if I had auditioned I wouldn’t have gotten it, as you can tell by the performance). Bonnie Timmermann loves actors, and has championed so many".
During the 1980s, Timmermann also cast other relatively unknown actors for the series Miami Vice: Bruce Willis, Chris Rock, Julia Roberts and others.
Casting Director Bonnie Timmermann’s influence on the movie business over the last 40 years has been enormous. Ben Stiller, George Clooney, Alec Baldwin, Sandra Bullock, and Jim Carrey, are just a few of the now superstar actors discovered by Timmermann as they were starting their careers.
She's cast Sean Penn in Fast Times at Ridgemont High; Ralph Macchio in The Karate Kid; Jennifer Grey in Dirty Dancing; Tim Robbins in Bull Durham; Ralph Fiennes in Quiz Show; Russell Crowe in The Insider; and Daniel Day-Lewis in The Last of the Mohicans.
